The visual-communication, a kind of major behaviors of communication, using intuitionistic pictures (complanate ones or solid ones, static ones or dynamic ones) and visual-marks to transform, to share and to undertake the roles belonging to literal-marks. After a famous literary book coming out and obtaining its authority, the variable parts of its text is becoming smaller and smaller, so the visual-communication, which is constituted by graphic arts, dramatics, folk crafts, cartoons, movies and TV programes, have maken up the most continual and most active living-mode of the famous book. The visual-communication have so many cultural meanings because it may participate the process of the book becoming to a famous one, may expand the book's incidences, may send back the imformations about its readers' feeling, and may promote its two-way transmission with mass culture. There are only a little researches about Chinese classical fictions' visual-communication, so this thesis choose the Journey to the West, a novel having close relations with visual-communication, as an individual case. With the view of literal mass communication, to list the history of its visual-communication, to dicuss how can be it deductived, shaped, changed and joked during its various sorts of visual-communications, to dig out the social coustoms and popular mentalities hiding behind it, to make complete the blank of researches and to describe a history of effectiveness of a famous literary book.
