A Study Of Phonology Of Shenchi Dialect

Shenchi dialect is classified into Wutai cluster of Jin Group.This paper describes the phonological system of the accent of Longquan town in Shenchi County,Shanxi province.It analyzes the phonetic system of Shenchi dialect from initials,finals and tones in two espects: the diachronic one is the comparison with the ancient phonology and the synchronic one is the comparison with Mandarin.Chapter One.Introduction.It introduces the geography,population,history of Shenchi County and the status,significance of the Shenchi dialect research.Chapter Two.Phonological System of Shenchi Dialect.It introduces the initials,finals,tones and the relations of them.It analyzes the important phonological phenomena,such as neutral-tone,retroflex,tone sandhi,abrupt tone changing into lax tone,lax tone changing into abrupt tone,colloquial-literary strata.Chapter Three.Comparison of Phonology of Shenchi Dialect and Ancient Chinese.With comparison and analysis,It gives the historical origin of Shenchi dialect in initials,finals and tones.from the medieval Chinese phonology which is represented by Guang Yun.Chapter Four.Comparison of Phonology of Shenchi Dielect and Mandarin.It compares the similarities and differences of the phonology of Shenchi dielect and Mandarin from initials,finals and tones and finds the correspondence rule between them.Chapter Five.Summary.Analysis the phonetic features of Shen Chi dialect from initials,finals and tones.Appendix.Homonyms.Based on the "Dialects Questionnaire",It lists the homonyms of Shenchi dialect which are arranged by the phonetic system.
