Research On The Melody Of Zhao Jun Yuan

Zhao Jun Yuan,an archaic music with a long history,was once included in Yue Fu Poetry and first found written by Su Shi in Song Dynasty.Both narrative and emotional in its name,the Guqin melody of Zhao Jun Yuan stems from the historical fact of Wang Zhaojun going out of the frontier pass.It is generally acknowledged that the image of Zhaojun was first recorded as a real historical figure in Han Shu.Innumerable artistic works on the historical subject of Zhaojun going out of the frontier pass vary from history books,stage art to literature,from such refined works as poetry,Ci,Qu and Opera to mass verbal art in folktales,folk songs and so on.The experts and scholars who study these subjects are too numerous to list.However,few of them make inquiries into the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan which is vaguely relevant to Zhaojun.Handed down from Han Dynasty to now,its melody has still remained alive and inheritable in quite a few Ci writers' limited works.An overall study on the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan from its origin,development,evolution,acceptance and so on is significant to the Ci study,especially to the study on a single Ci melody.This thesis is divided into three chapters as follows:Chapter one discusses the origin of the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan.This part will explore the relationship between the history of Zhaojun and the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan and also the development of Zhaojun's story into the musical,poetic and Ci forms in order to present relevant historical background of the melody and a clear statement of its origin.Chapter two probes into the evolution of the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan in the course of composition.The homology in different forms and names from Song Dynasty to Qing Dynasty will be analyzed.This part will also involve the study on the acceptance and creation condition of Zhao Jun Yuan under the influence of famous writers such as Su Shi and Xin Qiji.Chapter three studies the subjects of Zhao Jun Yuan from aspects of subjects,content,emotional tunes,literary styles and so on.Although it endures through a slow and long history,the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan shows strong vitality and expressive force.This thesis attempts to make a systematic and comprehensive research into the melody of Zhao Jun Yuan from multi-perspectives to depict a clear process of the origin and evolution of the melodyin Zhao Jun Yuan and enrich and expand the study on a single Ci melody in Ci study field.
