Closed in nature,Frequency Adverbs(FA)constitute important parts of Chinese adverbs.Although they are small in number, their significance and usage are multiple and complex, especially in terms of similar FA.The inherent complexity of FA has made them the key yet difficult part of Chinese teaching. In recent years, researches about FA are increasing. However, few researches,if any, have focused on the Chinese FA learning of Cambodian students. In this thesis,we selected such 10 Frequency adverbs as “Zongshi”“Jingchang” listed in “Chinese Proficiency Glossary and Chinese character Rank Program” as our research objects and use Cambodian students of intermediate and high Chinese levels as research subjects. Then the acquisition level of Chinese FA of Cambodian students was studied and analyzed through an empirical research.First,we reviewed the literature on researches of FA over the recent years and generalized the characteristics of 10 selected FA from two dimensions: semantically and grammatically.Second, the author studied the acquisition of Chinese FA of Cambodian students with the help of corpora, such as corpora of empirical researches and HSK Corpora of Beijing Language and Culture University, and a summary of error types was concluded.Third, the author finished the empirical research by taking implicit instruction and explicit instruction, and then analyzed the research results, which show that the effects of implicit instruction are better than explicit instruction for intermediate and high Chinese level students. At last, some suggestions are provided on Chinese FA teaching based on research results.
