Consecutive interpreting is very popular in training courses.Previous studies at home and abroad mainly focused on the significance of the application of Schema Theory in the areas such as artificial intelligence, reading,ESL listening comprehension, and English teaching.Few studies are available on the role of Schema Theory in the interpreting, especially for training courses. In this thesis, the author studied the significance of schema in the pre-interpreting preparation and during the whole process of interpreting, using one of the NLP training courses as a case study. The author also illustrated shared challenges in the interpreting and found ways to cope with challenges with selected interpreting strategies. It was found that all these interpreting strategies were related to the schema theory in one way or another. After careful analysis, the author found that linguistic schema and content schema were more relevant in the interpreting out of four forms of schema. So more efforts should be made in these two forms of schema to enhance the interpreting performance.Schemata exist in one's subconsciousness for a long time. The author tries to bring the schemata to the surface of the people's consciousness. In doing so,the interpreters can be navigated around the schemata with a clear direction. With Schema Theory in mind, interpreters can improve the interpreting performance in a specific way. That is to constantly build and accumulate schemata in all forms, especially the linguistic and content schema. In this sense, this paper might be served as a reference for other interpreters in the future training courses.
