With the increasing of the international conferences, the consecutive interpreting has gradually become an important means of the translation and boards the international stage. The prediction strategy,as one of the most important skills, has been paid attention by more scholars. With the deepening of the research, the application of the prediction strategy has become more extensive and universal. Most researchers put emphasis on the application of the prediction strategy in simultaneous interpreting, but few scholars focus on the aspect of the consecutive interpreting. This thesis is a practice report of English-Chinese consecutive interpreting.Based on the schema theory, namely the linguistic schema, the background knowledge schema and the structure schema,we take the speech presented by Obama at Benedict College as an example and summarize the problems in the interpreting practice and present them in the form of case analysis. The case study shows the following findings.Firstly, key words and logical relations between the sentences can be used to solve the problems which were caused by the voice and speed of the speaker.Secondly, background information and specific contexts can be used to weaken the cultural implication problems.Thirdly, transitional conjunctions and ostensive information can be used to solve the problem of unconsolidated text. The proper use of prediction strategies can not only help to convey the conference information correctly, but also help to reduce the psychological burden. It is hoped that this research can bring some reference values for the later development.
