With the development of music in the 21 st century,the use of pitch is always an important issue for music creators to consider,making breakthroughs and innovating constantly.Nowadays,although pitch is no longer an essential element of musical composition,it is still an important way for people to know a piece of music,to understand its meaning,to feel its mood and thought,and to form an impression of the piece.The organization of pitch has evolved from its initial traditional mode,into its being broken down step by step today,and new pitch selection and combination rules have been established by composers.Since the Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg founded the twelve-tone system in 1908,the dominant position of tone in musical organization was broken,and pitch application entered the atonal,highly rational,serialized,digital,and logical era.After an entire century,new musical creations still rely on the support of pitch and its use.It is worthwhile for musical creators and composers to make an in-depth study of how to develop and innovate pitch in their musical works.When the traditional mode is broken,and highly precise,digital and sophisticated pitch is used to the extreme,many composers set their sights on the traditional application of pitch.In the 21 st century,the development of new music shows the trend of returning to traditional thought regarding tone and pitch.The combination of new music with ethical musical language,and its integration with the original musical ecology both reflect this trend.This paper analyzes and summarizes the thought concerning the use of pitch in "Quicksand",a two-piano piece,and explains both how to include the relationship between tone and pitch,and how to imply tone structure with thought to applying tone series to compose pitch during musical creation.In addition,it explains how to make the tone series coexist and integrate with mode and tone based on giving priority to forming pitch combination rules,further broadening the thinking on pitch structure inmusical creation,and providing a useful reference for future creations.
