This paper is a sub-project of a project titled“Research on the space,structure,form and ornament of wooden buildings in Tang,Song,Liao,Jin,Yuan,Ming Dynasty by historical documents and paintings”led by Professor Wang Guixiang from Tsinghua University school of architecture,funded by Chinese National Natural Science Foundation.This paper focuses on the building images depicted in the drawing “Map of Emperor Ming's Summer Palace” and tries to research the Jiehua(also called boundary painting)in Song Dynasty from the perspective of historical building restituting based on research of art history.The research begins with an imitation of the whole piece to understand the drawing method and principles of Jiehua.Second,after comparing building-restituting based on relics,documents and drawings,the major principles and methods of building-restituting based on drawings will be concluded.Last,based on the study above,the design method guided by Yingzao Fashi and related study will be applied to validate the ingenuity of Jiehua artists and to verify the correspondence between architecture and Jiehua in Song Dynasty.
