Economic globalization has accelerated its pace in recent years. As Chinese people began to pay much more attention to economic information due to increasing foreign trades,a large number of English economic texts have been introduced. However, economic theories, behaviors or phenomena in such texts are likely to be complex and abstract for target-text readers who are lack of professional backgrounds.According to Casta?o and Verdaguer(2014,p.326),“one particular field where we can find a wealth of metaphors is business discourse.Newspapers and magazines strongly rely on metaphorical expressions to describe the state of the economy, markets and business issues in general”.Text-writers often resort to metaphors to handle this problem.Hence, metaphors in economic texts impose difficulties and challenges to translators. In addition, the proper translation of metaphors exerts a direct effect on the acquisition of economic information and on the reading experience of target-text readers.Based on the Financial News Trans-Editing Program of Huanqiu.com(95 English economic texts selected)and supported by Graded Salience Hypothesis(GSH),this thesis studies E-C translation of metaphors in economic texts at lexical and cognitive dimensions. To achieve this objective, this thesis adopts Metaphor Identification Procedure Vrije Universiteit(MIPVU)for a comprehensive identification and conducts a systematic analysis of metaphors in 95 English economic texts, combing a quantitative analysis with a qualitative analysis.According to feature analyses of economic metaphors and three corresponding relationships of English and Chinese metaphors at the dimensions of lexical access and cognitive reasoning proposed by GSH,the author summarizes four concrete translation techniques under the guidance of Domesticating and Foreignizing translation strategies via detailed translation case analyses. At last, the author hopes metaphor translation techniques concluded in this thesis can provide practical guidance for participants of this program and for translators engaged in economic text translation.
