The research on new dimensions of figurative language is introduced from “the phenomenon of “Cloud Gate” in Chicago.The novel form of figurative language on the view of publicity,a new cognitive dimension of figurative language,is established by analysis the effect of figurative language of public art on conventional figurative language from the perspective of publicity,formal expression and the way of ideographic between sharing and separating of art language,with the pointcut of the research of figurative language,in the spatial art fields of sculpture and public art.The study concentrates on artistic practice and realizes the extension and reconstruction of figurative language by employing the knowledge of multiple disciplines,such as researches on publicity,history of art,theories of art reproduction,semiology,relational aesthetics,and so on.The extended figurative language is attempted to be applied to the analysis of artistic practice.This paper is divided into six chapters.In the 1st chapter,the construction of this paper is considered.The conceptual analysis about figurative language on the view of publicity and the extension of figurative language to interactivity and participation are presented in chapter 2.This chapter includes the concept of publicity,the attention of “public culture” in public art and the figurative language on the view of publicity,to introduce figurative language to the field of public art.The analysis on “publicity” is based on the current research on publicity of public art,and locates the core of publicity of public art.Through analyzing the attention of “public culture” in public art from the perspective of art,the standpoint of public art is reestablished,and “public culture” is focused.On the premise that the public art has been recognized,figurative language on the view of publicity is defined and cognized anew from the perspective of publicity,which is the argument of this paper.The 3rd chapter ascertains the extension of figurative language in the field of public art to the spatial form of figurative language in the field of sculpture by comparing sculpture and public art,discusses the form and culture problem of figurative language of public art by constructing physical space and culture space,and analyzes the non-substantialization of figurative language of public art.The problem of figurative language on cultural expression is also presented in this chapter.The 4th chapter continues to analyze the physical existence of non-substantialization of figurative language and the cultural expression of figurative language in the ideographic mechanism of figurative language.This chapter contains four sections,the exploration about conceptual art,the theory of reappear,the ideographic mechanism of figurative language on symbolic structure and the summarization of cultural expression of figurative language in public art.The first section focuses on the analysis on the relationship between the physical bearing and the conceptual spirit,and attempt to establish the logic of transform from the form of art to the concept.Section 2 systematically analyzes the reappear mechanism of figurative language from the theoretical perspective.Based on the above analysis,the subsequent section constructs the hierarchical structure of ideographic expression of figurative language according to the theoretical knowledge of symbolic structure and analyzes the concept of art expression.The last section summarizes the expression of public art in the figurative ideographic mechanism.The 5th chapter analysis the behavior of figurative language in public art.Figurative language is divided into visually dominant figurative language and non-visual dominant language.Visual dominant figurative language can be classified into two kinds,in visual modality and in non-visual modality.The figurative language in visual modality can construct the meaning of artistic work by figurative culture and concept.By contrast,the figurative language in non-visual modality which is based on cognition can be classified into 4 categories,size,material,space time and color.Non-visual dominant figurative language is divided into participating behaviors and verbal languages.
