The report aims to work out proper and applicable translation strategies for juvenile and children literature from the perspective of Skopos theory.Juvenile and children literature bears four features: pedagogical meaning,artistic image,amusing entertainment and enthralling plots.It is required that children literature should have an explicit theme,vivid characters,fascinating plots with plainly refined language and plentiful imagination.It also needs content forms and techniques of expression which are suitable for children's physiological and psychological features.In the process of translating children literature,the translator should pay due attention to the features of target readers as well as the different expressions between English and Chinese.Skopos theory focuses on translation purpose which determines the translation strategies and methods to be used to produce a functionally appropriate result.Skopos theory requires that the culture and language should be conveyed from the prospective of target readers and all translating actions should conform to cultural cognition and expressing habits of target readers.Therefore,Skopos theory is of great value to guide the translation of juvenile and children literature.The aim of translating juvenile and children literature is to convey the source information and to arouse reader's emotional resonance.The target readers are those juvenile aged 12 to 17.In view of target readers' special cognitive level and aesthetic demand,this report proposes two translation strategies and three translation methods for juvenile and children literature on the basis of three principles,i.e.,reader-oriented principle,aesthetic principle,division strategy,child fun retaining strategy and culturespecific items adding strategy.This report also mentions that two parts should be stressed in the process of translating juvenile and children literature.The first is cultural factors,the second being linguistic features.As for the cultural factors,the translator adopts a method of retaining culture-specific items.As for linguistic features,the translator can cope with them by following the methods: shortening long sentences,changing sentences orders and using rhetoric.
