A Report On Translating IHG's Annual Report,2013(Documentary Excerpts)

This translation report focuses on the excerpt of IHG's Annual Report,2013 issued by Intercontinental Hotels Group and studies on the features and strategies of annual report translation under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory.The excerpts comprise of the group's financial state,hotel's management models,and promotion and advertising of hotel brands.This report consists of introduction,report description,translation process,theory introduction,case analysis and conclusion.The translator primarily explores difficulties and relevant translation strategies in translating terminology and abbreviation,long and complicated sentences as well as context translation under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory.Through specific case analysis,application of this theory is also discussed.The translation strategies frequently exploited in this report are diction,conversion,amplification and omission.As to the long and passive sentence,the translator also makes some analysis.This report comprises of six chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and research significance of the report.The second chapter is a description about the source text and the textual features of the excerpt.The third chapter briefly introduces the translation process.And the fourth chapter talks about functional equivalence theory and its application in practice.The fifth chapter is case study,in this chapter,the translator chooses some examples from the excerpt and analyzes the practical application of the theory in this report.The sixth chapter comes to the conclusion which summarizes the main problems that should draw the translator's attention during annual report translation and what the translator gains from this practice.Through summarizing translation strategies of this hotel group's annual report,the author probes into the practice and effect of cross-cultural dissemination under the new trend of global economy and hopes to facilitate the teaching and research in the applied translation field to some extent.
