A Report On E-C Translation Of BHP Billiton 2018 Annual Report(Chapter 5)

With the deepening of globalization,communication and cooperation among transnational corporations are becoming increasingly frequent.Annual report is the comprehensive material prepared by organizations or enterprises to unveil their yearly operating performance.The accuracy and objectivity of annual report translation constitute the basis for communication and cooperation among companies,thus its translation plays an important role in communication for companies with different languages.As the informative text,the source text is taken from BHP Billiton 2018 Annual Report.The translation is completed mainly under the guidance of Eugene A Nida's functional Equivalence Theory.The translation strategies of literal translation and free translation are mainly applied to maximally retain the information and linguistic features of source text.During the translation practice,the translator repeatedly deliberates the text characteristics and sentence structures of the annual report.Key points and difficulties can be summarized as translation of terminologies and complex sentences.The terminologies cannot be accurately translated without the basic knowledge in accounting and business and the deep understanding of the polysemy.To fully and precisely understand complex sentences,the translator uses various translation methods including linear translation,inverse translation,division and comprehensive translation.For the translation of passive voice and attributive clause,multiple translation methods are given with detailed case analysis.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some references for annual report translation This translation report mainly consists of four chapters.Chapter one is the translation task introduction,Chapter two mainly presents the translation process,Chapter three is the case analysis and Chapter four is the translation summary with problems and reflection given.
