"Thunderstorm" is Cao Yu's first play,which is cohesion with his several years' effort and has received good reputation by many writers since being published.This play tells about an intricate relationship between two generations and two families.Although there are only four acts and eight main characters,it contains complicated ethic relations and reflects rich ethical culture.Cao Yu likes the play very much and also takes part in its performance.But as the play contains progressive thought which is well popular among progressive,in order to stabilize the domination,the public performance of “Thunderstorm” was forbidden by the government.This thesis deeply analyses and researches the "thunderstorm" in the point of ethical,rediscovers and recognizes the significance of ethics in "thunderstorm",deepening the understanding of the social ethical culture in the 1830 s,and the society developing meaning of “thunderstorm” at that time.The thesis discusses the ethics culture background of "thunderstorm" from two aspects including the social ethical culture change during the period of play-creation and the living environment of Cao Yu and his ethical cultural cognition at that time.Then the second part of the thesis is mainly about specific analyzing of the ethics culture background of "thunderstorm".Following the deeply analysis of the family ethics relationship and culture in three aspects including the relationship between husband and wife,father and son,and brothers and to explore its profound influence among the words of "thunderstorm".And in the third part,the thesis researches the influence to Cao Yu by western tragedy philosophy works,and analyzes the intellectual women's tragic fate who are eager for "spiritual liberation",the lower social grade women's tragic fate who becomes to be "domestic servant" "sex slaves",discovers the formation reasons of their tragedy,and explores the enlightenment from this kind of tragedy image to feminist ethics.In the meantime,the Chinese traditional ethics culture also gives an invisible,formative influence to Cao Yu on his play creation.You also can notice obviously the collision and agitate between traditional ethical culture and modern culture.And the Confucian ethics culture of Good-versus-evil,Taoism culture of return to innocence and Buddhist culture of blowbacks return also widely reflected in the text.Similarly,foreign culture from the west,such as Christianity ethics culture also has a distinct influence on Cao Yu's works creation.The consciousness of "sin","regret" and "love" embodied in "thunderstorm" also shows practical significance.
