As C.T.Hsia ’s History of Chinese Modern Novels which is different from the mainland’s writing style, the researchers have produced many divergent comments since the reform and opening up.Many literature arguments are still worthy of further study. The essay will mainly comment on the three propositions of "moral vision","Obsession with China" and "Lu Xun’s commentaries of C.T.Hsia",trying to sort out the intrinsic meaning and characteristics of the three to find out the common points of its intersection, further clarify the critical characteristics of C.T.Hsia’s modern novels, and enrich the content and concept of modern literary criticism. The paper divides the whole text into three chapters: "moral vision","Obsession with China",and "Lu Xun’s commentaries of C.T.Hsia" :The first chapter mainly explains and extends the "moral vision" of History of Chinese Modern Novels, and summarizes the characteristics and enlightenment of C.T.Hsia’s moral criticism.First of all,by reading moral vocabulary in the text of the History of Chinese Modern Novels the author concludes their common characteristics.Secondly, the study of C.T.Hsia ’s comments on the starting point of the writer’s work and the research perspective, that is,he loves to criticize the literature with the basis of "moral".Finally, with the combination of the two we will find that they constitute two parallel "moral views" in C.T.Hsia ’s History of Chinese Modern Novels, and this "moral vision" is a kind of rule of moral criticism and aesthetic criticism artistic guidelines, but not a simple moral preaching. In the second chapter, according to C.T.Hsia ’s academic career background, the author makes a thought and extension of his theory of "Obsession with China".C.T.Hsia claims that the modern literature is not same with the past, and also very different with some aspects of Chinese mainland literature, that reflects the moral and mission sense of the works, that is the sense of Obsession with China. The "Obsession with China" and "moral vision" are actually same, that is,modern Chinese writers must face their time,do not escape social problems, and do not shirk their social responsibilities, that is the moral responsibility of a modern writer, and also the unique nature of modern Chinese literature. At the same time,C.T.Hsia also pointed out that this trait brings the shortcomings of modern novels. Finally, taking Lu Xun’s commentary as an example,by comparing and analyzing "Lu Xun’commentaries of C.T.Hsia" with Lu Xun’s comments at home and abroad,it can be found that C.T.Hsia ’s comments on Lu Xun and other writers revealed that the "moral" and "Obsession with China",actually this is an "alternative" Lu Xun image different from the traditional meaning and this provides an another perspective for us to re-care Lu Xun.For this reason,we claim that History of Chinese Modern Novels written by C.T.Hsia not only have a significant impact on the past era,but also the classic proposition put forwarded by him still inspire the current literary researchers. His broad reading horizons and unique critical perspectives still play a lasting and far-reaching charm in today’s cross-cultural context.
