In 1897,Germany occupied the Jiaozhou Bay and keep its coloniar rule as long as fifteen years.Japan took over the place when the First World War broke out in 1914.Beiyang government recovered the lost territory in 1922,however,with the Second World War it's occupied again by Japan.Qingdao has been colonized by Japanese until 1945 when the Kuomintang govern China. In 1949,it was totally liberated by the Communist Party. The city is worth studying for its full of twists and turns colonial history.Under the influence of the nation-state concept and the political ideology, the attitude to the colonial modernization which comes from the imaginations of Qingdao by Chinese intellectual shows contradiction and complex. In this paper, the author will analyze these imaginations of Qingdao based on the isomorphism of colonization and modernization.Besides the introduction and conclusion, the paper is divided into three chapters. The introduction part briefly expounds the value and significance of the topic selection of Qingdao city imagination, and reviews the current situation. The first chapter is about the shaping of the characters. The contrast in the characteristics of three pairs of characters is the key point to explore how the colonial modernization expressed in literature and what kind of effect did it have on these literary works.Whores are pathetic while lacqueys are detestable, intellectuals are aggressive while fogies of Qing dynasty try to escape the reality,German colonists are builders while Japan colonists are destroyers, through comparative study in these three pairs of characters,it's sensible to understand the experience of colonial history in Qingdao and why writers feels ambivalent about it.The foothold of the second chapter is that the modern western civilization is disciplinary to Chinese traditions. The corresponding expression of the conflicts between colonial modernization and Chinese traditions becomes meaningful. It's inevitable to trigger conflicts, especially when the modernization base on colonization, the discipline get colonial feature.A western society was implanted into the Chinese traditional society, caused the urban space and social structure to change, this made Qingdao just like a western city.No matter what had been done in the progression of the city, they were all for German colonists to live a better life in Qingdao, but not the locals.Though the Germany changed the place from a small fishing village to a modern commercial tourism city by remodeling the city space, strengthening the construction of infrastructure facilities, forming modern life styles, the locals still felt uncomfortable because they had no choice but giving up original lifestyles to get used to the colonists' pace of life.Like a corn has two sides, modernization not only brought Qingdao to international civilization, but also faded its local features on behalf of traditional Chinese culture.Chapter three is based on the study of chapter two and it's explored that the writers' creative motivations and emotions closely associated with their attitude to colonial modernization. These writers always holds off internationalization and urban experience which comes from colonial modernization on account of national consciousness and state feelings. It can't be neglected that a kind of anti-colonial modernization expression shows in compliments for multicolored city.In literal works, writers focus on national traditional culture and local features to fade way colonization and modernization. They also show urbanization problems to query about colonial modernization if reasonable or not.In addition to this, they set interracial couples discrete ending,it's indicated that the cultural difference between the east and the west is difficult to bridged. With all these abve, there are some disharmonious voices in colonial modernization complements. They reflect the writers' revolt against the progress with the contradictory feeling which is both wishful and repulsive deep inside. The concluding part summarizes the whole paper.
