This thesis analyzes Huangdi Neijing and its two translated versions from the perspective of Peter Newmark's Translation Theory, namely Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation.Varied approaches should be applied according to the different language features, different linguistic features in the lexico-grammatical level, and different types of the texts. This thesis proposes the following 3 research questions:(a)What are the features of Huangdi Neijing?(b)What are the most suitable translation strategies to translate them?(c)How can the best effects be achieved in translating this type of text? As far as the research data and methods are concerned, this study employs qualitative study method and comparative study method to conduct a research into Ilza Veith and Li Zhaoguo's translated versions. After comparatively analyzing Ilza Veith and Li Zhaoguo's English versions from the aspects of linguistics and textual functions, the authors concludes that Huangdi Neijing,a medical book and a literary classic as well, has both informative text function and expressive text function with the latter as the dominant text type;the most suitable translation strategy is semantic translation as a major method supplemented by communicative translation method.
