Huangdi Neijing,as the earliest medical classic in China, has a complete theoretical system and abundant theories of traditional Chinese medicine.Because of its origin in ancient times, the content of the text is profound and mysterious, and rhetoric is often used.In recent years, different translators hold different views on the translation of rhetoric in Huangdi Neijing. In order to understand the deep-seated reasons behind the different methods adopted by translators, this paper intends to make a contrastive study of rhetorical translation in Li Zhaoguo's and Ni Maoshing's English versions from the five ethical models of translation proposed by Finnish scholar Chesterman, and to explore the reasons for their different translation strategies and the translation ethics followed by the two translators. The translation styles and features of the two versions are different.Li's translation is an English Chinese Version(Chinese is the vernacular version annotated by Liu Xiru),and the translation of Ni Maoshing is easy to understand and popular with many foreign readers. In this study,81 sentences are selected from the three rhetorical devices widely used in Huangdi Neijing: parallelism, metaphor and metonymy. The corresponding translations of the two versions are found, and the adequacy of their translations is scored by lines. Then,SPSS is used for objective statistical analysis. It is found that there is a significant difference in the adequacy of translation between the two versions, and the adequacy of translation in Li version is higher than that in Ni version. Therefore,by choosing some representative sentence translated by Ni,which can best reflect the ethical relationship among them, this paper attempts to interpret the translation of Huangdi Neijing from Chesterman's five translation ethical modes.Chesterman's five translation ethics have certain explanatory power to the handling styles of two different translations.Domestication is the main translation strategy adopted by Ni Maoshing in the translation of Huangdi Neijing. And the translation method is mainly free translation, focusing on the transmission of cultural information in the original text and not sticking to the language form of the original text. The above conclusion is confirmed by the translation methods and strategies adopted by him, that is,for Ni Maoshing,he always regards himself as a service person in his heart.Whether intentionally or unintentionally,he never regards the translator as the translation center, but stands outside the translation to see the translation of Neijing.Li's translation mainly adopts the strategy of foreignization, which conveys the linguistic features and cultural connotations of the original text.It aims to introduce the Chinese culture and traditional Chinese medicine theory of Huangdi Neijing to the outside world under the guidance of representation ethics. Finally, from the ethical point of view, every translation ethics ultimately serves for communication ethics. In the translation context of this translation, ethics of communication always takes the dominant position, which may be related to the translation purpose of the translator, but what is the reason needs to be further explored.Five translation ethics are indeed contradictory. The specific translation ethics to be followed depends on the genre of the translated text and the translator's subjective purpose.
