A Report On The Translation Of A Biography Of Sun Yat-sen(Excerpts)

This is a project report on the translation of an excerpt from the book A Biography of Sun Yat-sen(Chapter one to Chapter five)written by Zhang Lei and Zhang Ping.Based on historical facts and materials,the book has recorded and explored the life of Sun Yat-sen and his thoughts systematically and thoroughly,which is of great academic value and practical significance.The translation of this book will contribute to academic exchanges home and abroad and help the international society form an all-sided knowledge of the great man and his ideas.The excerpt of this book,which the report is based on,explores the life of Sun.Under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory and based on the text category,linguistic features and cultural elements contained in it,the translator tries to find some appropriate translation strategies to be implemented at different levels of words,sentences,and discourse.In the process of translation,the cultural context is taken into consideration,and the forms of the target language are kept close to the original style.The main translation strategy implemented during the process is a combination of domestication and foreignization as based on the relevant cultural elements.The translation report contains four chapters: Chapter one,task description,consists of an introduction to the choice of the text,the goal and the significance of the project and to the construction of the report;Chapter two,translation process,introduces the whole translation process which includes preparations for the translation and the processes of the whole translation and proofreading;Chapter three,case study,is an analysis of many typical cases of the translation by applying appropriate theories from these aspects: translation strategy,skills,text type and translation problems;Chapter four reflects on the translation task.
