The Tone Sandhi Of Disyllabic Units And Trisyllabic Units Of Taoyuan Vernacular In Hunan Province

This paper mainly described the general situation of phonetics and the tone sandhi system of Taoyuan vernacular in Hunan province based on lots of field work and investigation,focused on the tone sandhi of disyllabic units and trisyllabic units.Taoyuan is located in the north of Hunan,attributed to Southwest mandarin.The synchronic structure of Taoyuan dialect shows obvious features of language contact.This paper selects the phonological level and grammatical tone sandhi as research object.It's based on description,and I will analyze the types of tone sandhi when it is necessary.Taoyuan vernacular has six tone:yinping,yangping,yinshang,yinqu,yangqu,and yinru.the paper describes the tone sandhi of disyllabic units from the perspective of whether the tone sandhi is neutral tone:One is the tone sandhi related with neutral tone,the other is the tone sandhi irrelevant with neutral tone.The tone sandhi related with neutral tone belongs to grammar-sandhi,and the tone sandhi irrelevant with neutral tone both belongs to gammar-sandhi and phonetic-sandhi.The restriction of the grammatical conditions is mainly reflected in the distinction between norminals and predicate.The tone sandhi of trisyllabic units is described from “2+1” type and “1+2” type.We found that the tone sandhi of trisyllabic units are based on the tone sandhi of disyllabic units,including phonetic-sandhi and grammar-sandhi.From the type of sandhi tone,the phonetic-sandhi belongs to the Register Assimilation,and the gammar-sandhi belongs to the Contour Simplification Rule.
