A Report On The Translation Of Hongtong Dahuaishu Tourism Publicity Manual Under The Guidance Of The Translation Variation Theory

Due to cultural regional differences,tourism,as an allopatric activity,must be a crosscultural communication activity to some extent,especially international tourism,demonstrating tourism translation can be considered as a transnational and transcultural communication activity with strong purposiveness.Considering the language and cultural differences of the two languages involved,inappropriate translation of tourism texts can hardly redisplay the unique cultural connotations and charm of scenic spots.Through great progresses have been made in its scope and depth,tourism translation is restricted largely to such translation for hospitality as introduction of tourist attractions,tourism advertisement and tourism signs.There aren't anywhere near enough studies in these most practical styles: tourism management text,tourism research text and tourism publicity manual.Under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory,this report makes a research on the translation of tourism publicity manual(TPM)of Hongtong Dahuaishu Ancestors Memorial Garden and explains in detail about the combination of seven devices of accommodation which contains addition,deletion,editing,narrating,condensing,combing and adaptation with the translation process.Five parts constitute this report.The first part,task description,describes the background information,significance and features of the source texts.The second part is the process description divided into preparation and translation process.The third part comes to the theoretical basis,a brief introduction of Translation Variation Theory(TVT)and its seven devices of accommodation.The fourth part is the case analysis,in which the author analyzed problems in the source texts translation from the aspects of words,sentences and paragraphs,and some typical examples are given to illustrate how to solve these problems through seven devices of accommodation in TVT.The fifth part,conclusion,the author summarizes some findings and limitations in the process of translating in expectation of being able to provide some beneficial suggestions to translators of similar texts in the future.
