This practice report is about the translation of Managing the Middle-Income Transition:Challenges Facing the People's Republic of China.The task described in this report concerns Chapter 11 Industrial upgrading: experiences and policy lessons.The translation of business English text,especially the techniques for translating words,sentences,and paragraphs are introduced and analyzed in this report.According to the translation task,this report is composed of five chapters,concerning task description,process description,preparations for translation,case analysis,and summary.The first chapter is a description of the source,characteristics,and content of the translation task.Chapter two demonstrates the process of the task.Chapter three concerns the general stylistic features of parallel texts and the linguistic features of the original text together with corresponding preparations.Chapter four involves a multidimensional analysis of the strategies adopted for translating difficult words and sentence patterns.Last chapter summaries the whole process of translation and considers its implications for the future.It can be realized from this translation practice that business English is unique.It is an integration of financial knowledge and the English language.The lexical and syntactic characteristics of business English demand translators to be familiar with its stylistic features and put their knowledge of translation techniques into practice appropriately.
