With the fast development of economic globalization, the economic and tradecooperation among different countries speeds up dramatically. China, as one of thebiggest developing countries in the world, has been continuously expanding itsforeign trade, especially after the country adopted the policy of reform and openingup. In the international economic activities, business contract is the legal basis tostipulate parties’ rights and obligations which guarantee international business to goon smoothly. Therefore, the translation of business contract plays a critical role in theinternational business activities. The quality of business contract translation has a lotto do with the success or failure of international business.The rapid development of international business urges more and more scholarsto do researches on business English. However, there are few scholars who havemade deep study on business contract translation. In few books and journals,business contract translation has been discussed from such perspectives as dynamicequivalence, systematic functional grammar and register theory. No doubt, theseresearches lay a solid foundation for the future studies. They make greatcontributions to the development in this field.This thesis firstly analyzes the stylistic features of English business contract witha few examples, then illustrates the feasibility of applying German Functionalistapproaches to business contract translation and finally uses this theory to analyzeconcrete instances. The whole thesis tries to make researches from macro level tomicro level which also conform to the way of research from “top-down” to“bottom-up” proposed by German Functionalist theorists.
