Deconstructionism was proposed in the mid-1960 s by French philosopher Jacques Derrida.Studies about deconstructionism have been carried out widely at home and abroad.Based on the survey about the studies in China,it is obvious that deconstructionism has been associated with various kinds of disciplines, including linguistics, literature criticism, architecture, translation studies and so on.What is more, the investigation abroad is much more prosperous.Meanwhile, there has been a great upsurge at home and abroad in the studies about Alice Munro and her work after the year of 2013.As the first Nobel Prize winner in Literature in Canada,Munro's most renowned short story collection Runaway attracted extensive attention around the world. The research on Runaway can be separated into two phrases: from 2004 to 2013 and from 2013 to now.Since Runaway won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013,the studies about it have soared and been carried out in various aspects. However, there is still one aspect that has not aroused fair attention of the scholars around the globe.Under this circumstance, this thesis tends to analyze the only Chinese version of Runaway from the perspective of dissolution of binary oppositions. This thesis, drawing on the unique perspective of dissolution of the binary oppositions in the deconstructionism, devotes to analyzing the translation strategies and techniques,in order to provide an idea or guideline that can be applied and utilized in the field of translatology, especially within the field of literary translation. When it comes to the methodology applied in this thesis,it is mainly the textual analysis. To be more specific, the similarities and differences between the examples in two versions of the Runaway will be compared and contrasted and then the Deconstructive features of all these examples will be analyzed and summarized under the perspective of binary oppositions. After the analysis of both the Chinese and English version of Runaway and based on the different stages during the translation process, the deconstructive features of the Chinese version of this short story collection can be summarized into four aspects as follow: First, before the translation, considering the need of target readers, the deconstructive interpretation of the literary work made by the translator enables the work to have a rebirth in the target language and get closer to the target readers' habit.Second, rather than restrained by the signifier, the translator's subjectivity makes the translated work closer to the language environment of the target language, thus it is more understandable to the target readers.Third, instead of being confined by the literal meaning of the words or language, the translator reveals the signified of the language, making the translation more readable.Fourth,by showing the affinity of the two languages, the translator makes the relevance and shift of the two languages more convenient.Given the fact that there are few studies made within this angle, analyzing the text within the perspective of dissolution of binary oppositions of deconstructionism makes this thesis a constructive and innovative research.Under this circumstance, this thesis also focuses on the analysis of the translative features within the Chinese version of Runaway and intends to explore the guidance and improvement the deconstructive translation theory can impose on in the process of fulfilling the aim and improving the quality of literary translation.
