Perceptual-interference effect is an important theory of perceptual fluency in metamemory.Perceptual-interference effect is an interference manipulation during encoding which can enforce the later recall while reducing the judgments of learning.Encoding fluency is the ease of with which an item can be perceived during encoding phase.Research shows that the fluency while encoding can bring an illusion that a more easily perceived item is more likely to be remembered in the future test.To investigate how encoding fluency influences perceptual-interference effect,recently study shows several explanations such as single dissociation and double dissociation between metamemory and memory,encoding fluency,retrieval fluency and the desirable difficulty in judgments of learning.However,these explanations have never discussed the mechanism of perceptual-interference effect,this study will extend the manipulation of perceptual-interference effect and find a more proper manipulation which can universally interpret the mechanism of perceptualinterference effect.This study will use the paradigm of aggregate and item-by-item judgments of learning to test the perceptual-interference effect.Experiment 1 uses item-by-item judgments of learning to explore how different blurring words influence perceptual-interference effect.Experiment 2 uses aggregate judgments of learning to explore how different blurring words influence perceptual-interference effect.Experiment 3 uses the combination of blurring and enconding time to explore how different interference manipulation influences perceptual-interference effect.The study has included some conclusions as follows: The process of perceptual-interference effect influencing metamemory is not a simple course.The process of perceptual-interference effect will appear when the interference manipulation is simple and desirable while disappear when the manipulation is complicated.The process about how matamamory and memory operate is separate.When the difficulty of an item is desirable,the monitoring of metamemory to memory is not explicit.While the monitoring is clear when the difficulty is not desirable anymore.The manipulation of inducing perceptual-interference effect concludes desirable difficulty and deeply item processing.
