English writing reflects the learners' English language comprehensive use ability.Writing teaching has always been the difficulty in college English teaching.However,teachers in the actual teaching focus much on input,but not on output.Students' writing passion is not high and so on.Thus students' English writing quality and writing ability remain to be developed and improved.This study first varies and summarizes the relevant research status of domestic and foreign input hypothesis and output hypothesis to guide English writing teaching.In addition to the traditional input and output theory,the study focuses on the theory of Production-Oriented Approach(POA)and the implementation of the principle,which is a new theory that is suitable for the teaching of foreign language based on the present situation of English teaching in china on the basis of input and output theory.The operational processes of the system include the driving,contributing,and evaluation of the three main parts,which constitute the theoretical basis of this study.The study revolves around the following questions:firstly,what are the problems in college English writing teaching at present;secondly,if the POA theory can promote college English writing teaching,and in which aspect,does it promote;thirdly,how to direct college English writing teaching according to the operating steps of POA.The author has launched a survey selecting the undergraduates from Harbin Normal University of grade 2015 class1201 and their English teacher as the main study objects,using a hybrid study method which consists of quantitative and qualitative study to explore the feasibility,advantages and disadvantages of the teaching mode in college English writing under the guidance of POA theory.For this purpose,a two-term teaching experiment was carried out.Before and after the experiment,the investigation on the questionnaire of college English writing situation and two semi-structured interviews to the English teacher and some students were conducted to investigate the students' attitude,assessment and writing skills about writing lessons.Besides,before,in the middle of and after the experiment,three writing tests were respectively carried out one after another so as to know if the writing teaching guided by POA works well and if the students' writing quality is developed.Finally,based on the results of the survey under the guidance of POA,the study constructs the mode of college English writing teaching.The study shows that,to a certain extent,the teaching mode of college English writing teaching based on POA theory alleviates students' writing anxiety,stimulates students' writing desire to different degrees,and plays a positive role in improving students' writing quality.
