Since they were created,video games have been growing rapidly,along with the fast development of electronic technology.They have gained widespread popularity around the globe within 20 years.China's game industry output value has reached 165.57 billion yuan,far exceeding the total revenue of the film industry.Thus,game industry has become the most profitable.Movies and video games,as comprehensive media arts,share the common characteristics in the production of audio-visual elements.With a visual spectacle and huge big fans,video games have stimulated the film industry to covet for a long time.With the rapid growth of film technology and the prosperity of film industry,dozens of “ultra-long standby” game IPs have been adapted into the movies,appearing on the large screen.For instance,such games as Resident Evil,Tomb Raider and Silent Hill have been adapted into a series of movies,achieving fruitful progress in the past over 10 years.This paper reviews 38 movies adapted from 26 video games from 1982 to 2017 and makes a vertical analysis of the development process of those adapted movies from game IPs.Meanwhile,the paper analyzes the types of movies adapted from game IPs horizontally,exploring the laws and similarities of game adaption.In addition,the paper focuses on a dialectical analysis of the unity and individuality between games and movies from three aspects: transboundary,integration and interaction.In other words,the paper centers on the dialectical analysis of whether movies adapted from game IPs become Hollywood types,making an analysis of the prospect of integration between the game and movie industries as well as making a practical prediction of developing new types of filmic cyber games and new forms of game movies.This paper aims to point out the preference of movies adapted from game IPs for the film industry in China and serve the creation of advanced film culture contents.
