Seeking Eternal Tranquility In Adversity

With the unique national characteristics of coastal states,the Greeks have made contribution to the infant and splendid western civilization in its centuries of history.The Greek tragedy and sculptures,with ancient Greek mythology and legends as the theme,originate from the cultural tradition of Aegean and the Greek history.They are closely related with the Greeks' life and destiny.As they are two different artistic expressions,the Greek dramas and sculptures are rich in the noble tragedy spirit of ancient Greeks.This spirit is a portrayal of national character including optimism and tenacity,and it remains as the internal drive for the Greeks seeking for beauty and harmony.The tragedy spirit is expressed prominently and splendidly in the art of Greek sculptures.Especially the sculptures in the era of Hellenization are featured by romanticism,which is an art expression of turmoil and chaos in the Hellenization term.This paper,from the perspective of the history of Greek society,Greek mythology and Greek legends,has made a research on the expressions of figures from the ancient Greek tragedy in the art of sculptures,and discussed the tragedy spirit and lofty features reflected in ancient Greek sculptures.
