A large number of empirical researches show that digital coding has spatial characteristics,which is called Spatial-Numerical Association of Response Codes(SNARC)effect.Many researchers found this effect also exists in letters,and different patterns of space representation have different influences on SNARC effect.In this paper,Dehaene's experimental approach is adopted with space represented in the patterns of ruler and dial.By recording experimental subjects' EEG data and behavioral data of reaction time and accuracy,SNARC effect on letters was investigated.The results of the studies are shown as follow:(1)Both of these two experiments generating the SNARC effect,no matter represented by rulers or dials.(2)The result of the experiment which is represented by rulers proved that letters also exist SNARC-Like effect.(3)The experiment represented by dials generating a reverse SNARC effect,reflecting different patterns of space representation have different influences on SNARC effect indeed.(4)The analysis of EEG data demonstrates that parietal lobeis the area where largest amount activations are produced in both representations,which displays the typical EEG characteristic when SNARC effect happens.It also illustrates that space,number and letters which are endowed with sequence characteristic have a common processing area.However,when the space is represented by dials,the other lobes' difference is not obvious except the difference between the parietal and the occipital region.(5)None of these two experiments found obvious difference in activation degree between the two halves of the brain.
