Number plays an important role in human’s common life. Numberprocessing ability is necessary for human. Recently the developmentof human numerical ability has attracted more and more attention. In the existing study, people have already found that there are somespecific effects in the progress of number processing, one of whichis Spatial Numerical Association of Response Codes Effect (SNARCeffect).Recently, some put forward new theory and experimental resultson the challenges from the connections between the digital andspace.Such as Gevers (2010) and Imbo (2012)’s study of SNARC inadults and children found that verbal-spatial coding has become themain encoding of SNARC.In present study,Gevers et al’s experimental paradigm was usedto investigate that the coding modes of number-space interactions’SNARC effect under the symbols of Chinese characters and Englishwords. The stimuli were Arabic numbers(1,2,8,9),Chinese characters(“左”,“右”) and English words(“Left”,“Right”).Subjects’task was to decide whether the presented number was larger orsmaller than5,select Chinese characters or English words of leftand right. The results showed that:(1) Subjects performed theSNARC effect of number-space interactions in the task of numericalcomparison under the directed information of Chinese characters andEnglish word;(2) Under the directed information of Chinesecharacters, coding of SNARC effect were both visuospatial and verbalspatial, and the verbal-spatial coding was mainly.(3) Under thedirected information of English words, coding of SNARC efect wasmainly visuospatia1.In present study,Gevers et al’s experimental paradigm was usedto investigate that the coding modes of7to11-year-old children’s SNARC effect of numerical cognition under the symbols of Chinese characters. The stimuli were Arabic numbers(1,2,8,9) and theChinese characters (“左”,“右”).Subjects’ task was to decidewhether the presented number was larger or smaller than5,selectChinese characters of left and right. The results showed that7to11-year-old children performed the SNARC effect of number-spaceinteractions in the task of numerical comparison under the symbolsof Chinese characters, and the coding modes of7to11-year-oldchildren’SNARC effect of numerical cognition were visuospatial andverbal-spatia1.The verbal-spatial coding was mainly. These resultsindicated that children from7year old could connect the smallnumber with verbal information“左”and the large number with verbalinformation “右”when they represented numbers.More over, theinteraction of number with verbal was i n preference to theinteraction of number with space....
