Causal argument is considered to be a powerful support of physicalism. It concluded that mental events must be identical with physical events.Reductionism is against by multiple realizability, epiphenomenalism, and the phenomenon of property opposition.Papineau's causal argument is new at the property level understand this argument. In order to investigate the significance of causal argument to the physicalism,Papineau emphatically demonstrates the completeness of physics, and under the background of over-determinism and epiphenomenalism explains to the other two premises of causal argument. On the one hand,Papineau is to provide a version of mental properties,to support the physicalism. On the other hand he inspects and analyzes the three premises of this argument.First,he proved the completeness of physics principles, causal argument allows us to use "non-mental" definition "physics",but this will change the strength of the original argument, and makes this argument has nothing to do with the physicalism.Secondly, stick to “the phyisical effects of mental causes are not all overdetermined ”.Finally, shows that the causal argument does give the physicalism setting boundaries, namely "causal realms".Papineau thinks causal argument is not only proved “the mental events are identified with the non-mental events”,also is that it provides a more reasonable physicalism: “Everything with causal power is physical, whatever may be true of non-causal realms.”...
