| Mo Yan's novel Wa has won him the Mao Dun Prize,which was written based on almost 60 years' history of Chinese family planning policy in rural areas,and is of profound culture and alien sources.This research focuses on the alien source translation,hoping to obtain the translation pattern by exploring the classifications and the features of the alien sources in Wathrough building a bilingual parallel database.With the guidance of Skopos Theory,this research aims to find out the factors that lead to the translation pattern and what translator's purpose is.The result shows that the alien sources in Wacan fall into five groups,which are linguistic alien source,social alien source,religious alien source and material alien source,most of them are linguistic alien sources.The translation pattern Goldblatt applied in Frog can be concluded as paraphrasing > literal translation > deletion > substitution,while different groups of alien source have different translation patterns.According to data analysis,the choices of the translator is mainly controlled by three factors: the aim,including the purpose of translation,the willingness to keep the aesthetic of language and the feature of the original text;the translator's preference,which would lead a dissimilar way to the translation beyond its purpose;the translator's language ability and cultural background.When the translator confronts with a complicated case with much more profound Chinese culture such as traditional culture,metaphor and history,the purpose will be affected,and the dominance of translation strategy will be limited.It is also found that Glodblatt's translation is simple and frequent,generally close to the original text on the basis of making the translation understandable for target readers,which basically conforms to the three rules of Skopos Theory.Therefore,whatever purpose the translator has,he should try his best to reserve the alien sources thus to best exchange culture between two language communities. |
