The English text selected for this translation practice report is We Are Big Data:The Future of the Information Society. This book objectively explains readers the collection, analysis and classification of data, and its application in life. The translator selects the fifth, sixth, and seventh chapters for analysis and translation. The source text is good at explaining complex scientific theories in the most concise language,so that most readers can roughly understand the content. The translation should be profound in simple way, focus on the feelings of the readers.Based on the characteristics of this text, the translator chooses the Skopos theory as the practice theory of the report, showing the application of the theory to the translation of the source text, and finally summarizes the practical report. This report contains four chapters, the first chapter is the description of translation task;the second chapter is the description of the translation process;the third chapter is the case analysis;the last chapter is the reflection and summary. In the third chapter of the case analysis, the translator summarizes the problems encountered into two categories, namely lexical and syntax levels. From the guiding of the Skopos theory, vocabulary must not only highlight its basic meaning in a sentence, but also conform to the completeness of the sentence’s overall translation. Therefore, the translator discusses the meaning of words in terms of parts of speech, context and metaphor. In this process, the translator uses part-of-speech conversion, literal translation and free translation to translate vocabulary. The translators discussed the translation of attributive clauses and passive sentences at the sentence level. There is no concept of attributive clauses in Chinese, and word-to-word conversion is not possible. Therefore, how to translate English attributive clauses into Chinese authentically and faithfully to the source text is one of the difficulties encountered by the translator in the translation process.Based on the perspective of the Skopos theory, the translator translates English attributive clauses into prepositive attributive, minor sentence, and adverbial clauses, etc.dealing with passive sentences into Chinese passive sentences, active sentences and so on.In this process, the translator uses different methods such as preposition, segmentation, omission and addition to deal with the translation of sentences. Finally, the translation not only lexical and syntax levels, but also verifies the feasibility of the Skopos theory.Through this translation practice, firstly, the translator hopes to be able to provide a meager support for the dissemination of big data knowledge based in Guizhou, and secondly, the translation also hopes to provide reference for the translation practice of later generations. Finally, the translator hopes that she can summarize the shortcomings of her own translation ability, and then improve that.
