In such a competitive global environment,people are realizing that education is playing a key role in the global environment.In recent years,western scholars have already focused on the researches in this field with variable perspectives,rich materials and updated methods to provide better alternatives for educational system.However,China has relatively lagged behind in this field,both its research perspective and method need to be improved.Based on this reality,it is necessary to introduce the latest research achievements of educational leadership and policy to China,which would serve as references for domestic researchers.This paper is a report on English to Chinese translation practice about East-West Perspectives on Educational Leadership and Policy,which was published in 2015 by American Untested Ideas Research Center,New York.Chapter 5 and chapter 12 of the book were selected as source text,covering China and Australia Executive Leadership Program,and effective classroom management in a high poverty predominately African American school,which are relatively practical and would provide references to China's educational policy development and effective classroom management in high poverty elementary schools respectively.In addition,the language of selected chapters has distinctive features with long and complex sentences,and it is meaningful to analyze words and sentences in these two chapters,which is the main reason the translator chooses them as source text of this translation practice.The translator takes Catford's theory of translation shifts as theoretical basis,before translating the text,the translator has made full pre-translation preparations,and makes necessary translation shifts in words,grammar and sentences structure during the translation.After the completion of the translation,the translator communicated with the professor about the proper nouns and target text to guarantee the correctness of the them.This report combines the problems and difficulties of the two chapters,analyzes the cases in level shifts and category shifts aiming at providing some tips for translating this type of text.
