This study mainly discusses the correlation between musical intelligence and English prosodic competence and explores the interaction of gender,personality type and cognitive style with musical intelligence and English prosodic competence on the basis of the Multiple Intelligences Theory by using empirical research method.So far,many researchers have been aware of the similarities between music and language and made a lot of contributions in this field,most of which are theoretical.Of course,many empirical studies also involved in this field,such as:exploring the correlation between music and English pronunciation,English listening and speaking,English vocabulary,English writing and so on.Moreover,there are some studies from the perspective of the relation between music and English tones and intonations,but not comprehensive enough.Therefore,this paper intends to analyze the influences of musical intelligence on English prosodic competence from four dimensions:consonants and vowels(manner of articulation and place of articulation),word stresses,pauses and liaisons and tones and intonations by empirical research,trying to solve two main.problems:1.Is there a correlation between musical intelligence and English prosodic competence?If there exists,can the musical intelligence predict the English prosodic competence?2.Do gender,personality type and cognitive style have an interaction with the correlation between musical intelligence and English prosodic competence?If so,what interaction?The experiment turned mainly on the two questions above.The author invited 88 first-year students of different majors in 2016 from Shaanxi Normal University as experiment participants.About two months,the author used questionnaire survey and test materials to investigate their musical intelligence,personality type,cognitive style and English prosodic competence.The whole experiment was discussed and analyzed by using correlation analysis method and linear regression method in SPSS 19.0 and Excel software according to the test data and the survey results.According to the survey and analysis,the author found that students' musical intelligence and English prosodic competence showed a positive correlation and musical intelligence can predict English prosodic competence.Gender,personality type and cognitive style have less impact on the correlation of musical intelligence and English prosodic competence.The author hopes that this paper could highlight the importance of music to English learning and teaching through the study of the correlation between the musical intelligence and the English prosodic competence so as to have some guidance and inspiration for the introduction of music to English teaching education.
