The multiple intelligences (MI) theory has been widely applied and given great impetus in educational fields since it was presented in the late 1980s. Taking the basic theory of MI as a starting point, this paper discusses the possibility and necessity of applying it to language teaching and suggests ways of how to apply it to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter summarizes the MI theory and its appliance in educational fields, argues that the theory is applicable to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. Firstly, it introduces the MI theory and analyses its significance and influence simply. On this foundation, it put forward the assumption that we can apply the MI theory to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, analyses its feasibility and particularity, and conceives roughly how to do that. The second part analyses how to explore students' MI in Chinese teaching from three aspects, mainly from the teacher's point of view. It compares the traditional Chinese teaching activities with the Chinese teaching activities that integrates the multiple intelligence theory and points out the mistakes and other things that we should notice. The third part argues that teachers should pay attention to every student's intelligent style to promote Chinese teaching and suggests ways of doing that. The first section states the notion of intelligent style and the significance of mention it , distinguishes it from several confusable notions. The second to the fifth section narrates this theme from four aspects, emphasizes on how to dig out and utilize student's intelligence style. The last chapter is conclusion. The appendixes conclude two inventories and one checklist, which are relevant.
