The Research On EST Translation Methods On The Basis Of Informativity Principle

English for science and technology(EST)translation is an essential way to introduce overseas advanced technologies.In recent years,our country has been attaching great importance to the development of diving operation,which calls for larger demand for the translation of diving English.Based on informativity principle,this paper presents the relationship between informativity principle and EST translation by studying on the Chinese translation of several parts in the book U.S.Navy Diving Manual,and then puts forward some translation methods.It is found that one of the main characteristics of EST is its strong informativity.The informativity principle plays an important role in the EST translation,so the key point of a successful translation is to make sure the consistency of the source text and translation text.Focusing on the characteristics of the informativity principle and information distribution,this paper points out some translation methods from the perspective of the thematic progression and information grades,including omission,literal translation and addition.These translation strategies will improve translator's ability of text construction and comprehension of EST characteristics,which are benefit for translation practice.
