The ecological approach was proposed by Lawrence Cremin in 1970s.Its core idea is to respect,arouse and stimulate life,and pursue the integrity,interaction and balance in classroom teaching.It emphasizes the possibility of students' all-round development and life-long development.It provides a new research perspective for English teaching reform.For this reason,this research brings the ecological approach into the teaching of English writing.This approach takes the students as the center,focuses on the harmonious development of the relationship between teachers and students,emphasizes to arouse students' learning enthusiasm,and pays attention to the balance of the development of teaching in many aspects.Under the guidance of ecological education theory,two classes of the Guangxi Eco-Engineering Vocational and Technical College are taken as subjects,one is the control class and the other one is the experimental class.And it focuses on whether students in the experimental class make any progress after the application of ecological approach.In order to make the result more reliable,this research adopts the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey,interview,statistical analysis and classroom observation as research methods.On the basis of data analysis,Excel software is used to analyze the data.Three main research questions are as follows:1)Does the application of the ecological approach increase students' interests in English writing,and how to enhance their interests?2)How does the application of the ecological approach improve students' ability in English writing?3)In what aspects does the application of the ecological approach influence students' comprehensive competence?In the first period,the author investigates students' writing ability,interests,confidence and objective by questionnaire and classroom observation.In the second period,the post-test is carried out to find out whether the experimental class gets any improvements after the application of ecological approach.The result of the study shows that most of the students take positive attitudes toward the ecological approach.1.The application of ecological approach arouses students' interests in writing,and their confidence in writing is strengthened.2.The writing skills are improved,especially in the aspects of writing form and content.3.Students also make some progresses in comprehensive competence,such as,communicative competence,team working,language expression and so on.In a word,the ecological approach is feasible and effective in the teaching of English writing.
