College English teaching reform was listed as one of the tasks in the Higher Education Quality Project by the Chinese Ministry of Education at the beginning of this century. At present, constructing harmonious college ecology of language teaching has been put forward in the new college English teaching reform (Wang Shouren,2013). In recent years, improving national language ability, especially foreign language ability has become an important project, in order to meet the language requirement of dealing with foreign affairs (Wen Qiufang, Su Jing,2011). And the harmonious eco-linguistics has come to be the basis of improving national language ability.This thesis is based on the theories of eco-linguistics and ecology of education. Meanwhile the ecological philosophy is adopted as methodology in the thesis. And an empirical study was conducted in Southeast University. Both the qualitative and quantitative methods were adopted. The Excel software was used to process the data collected for the analysis of the connotation and construction of college English classroom ecological environment dynamically and comprehensively. At the same time, the main factors among college English classroom ecological environment are probed into based on the "teaching, learning and managing" integration principle to construct a dynamic and balanced college English ecological classroom teaching model in a hope to change current embarrassing college English teaching situation and Improve national foreign language abilities. And there are three questions in this research:(1) According to the analyses of Southeast University English teaching practice, whether college English ecological classroom can improve college students’ English comprehensive abilities? And if it can, how can it improve? (2) Using "teaching, learning and managing" integration principle as the classification standard, what should be regarded as the main factors among those three categories in the best college English ecological classroom? (3) How to construct the best college English ecological classroom model, according to the analyses of the Southeast University English teaching practice and factors covered in the college English ecological classroom? In order to achieve the above aims, two English Grade Four classes are chosen as the observation subjects in Southeast University. And the students’questionnaires were completed by 55 students from the two classes. Additionally the teachers’questionnaires were distributed to 10 teachers who teach freshmen in the Southeast University. And 10 teachers were interviewed for this thesis.The research findings show that college English ecological classroom is helpful for improving students’English comprehensive abilities with some impacts of many different factors. After analyzing the data, those factors can be classified into three categories, namely teaching, learning and managing. From the teaching perspectives, it includes the teaching methods, teaching materials, English class arrangement, class atmosphere, relationship and interaction between teachers and students, teachers’code of morality, and teachers’ professional quality. From the learning perspective, it covers students’characteristics, learning motivations and attitudes, learning strategies, relationship between students and teachers, class atmosphere, and students’roles in class. From the managing perspective, it is mainly made up of the scales of the English classes, teaching equipment, evaluation system, testing system and supervising system. Only when the above factors interact with each other in a dynamic and systematic way, can the best college English classroom model be built. Specifically during the interactions, the teachers should have professional quality and the teachers’code of morality, knowing how to use different teaching methods and materials. And the important point is to keep good relationships with students. As for the student, keeping good relationships with teachers is also important. They need to make full use of the evaluation system and learn how to learn English by themselves. When it comes to the managing, top-level designs of evaluation system, testing system, supervision system as well as teaching policies should be made rational and scientifical. All in all, as a new trend in college English teaching reform, the study of college English ecological classroom is a new way of solving college English teaching problems and improving national language ability, especially foreign language ability.
