An Exploration Of Documentary Spirit In Chinese Mainstream Documentaries Over The Past 30 Years

The 1990 s was the heyday of Chinese television documentary.At this stage,Odyssey Of The Great Wall was a more radical reversal of the creating ideas of a Chinese documentary man,in which more tracking cameras were randomly used and recording ways as objective as possible were used to capture a large number of simultaneous sound and image materials.Thus,through the authentic way of life,it shows the charm of life itself and the possibility of various expressions.This kind of creation,because of its closeness to the ordinary people,aroused people's great enthusiasm for watching,and many people not only for the first time felt the sincerity and warm of the documentary,but also found their own sense of existence in the vast ocean of history.Subsequently,this documentary spirit was inherited by more documentary creators and gave birth to the development of relevant documentary programs.And this spirit was clearly reflected in Documentary Editing Room made by Shanghai Television Station and Living Space made by CCTV.With the expansion of the concept of documentary's influence on the production of documentary,there were some problems of simplification and superficiality.Particularly,in nowadays television transmission system with ratings as the lifeline of television programs,more and more record themes and record techniques have been introduced,which on one hand,enriched the documentary forms and on the other hand,appeared to make the documentary development fall into the predicament of the chaos.Especially,it led to the documentary spirit's decline,which has become a major problem.The good news is that under the policy promotion and documentary creators' persistence,some documentaries with documentary spirit are always on the stage and appear to be on the forefront once again.Although these excellent works' number is still in a small position,they still conveys documentary spirit's charismatic ideology and culture value.The related research in this thesis mainly focuses on the beginning,the development,the decline,the persistence and the restart of the documentary spirit.The main contents of the chapters are as follows: the profound influence of the documentary Odyssey Of The Great Wall's documentary spirit;the inheritance of documentary spirit by Documentary Editing Room and Living Space;the phenomenon of decline of documentary spirit in the contemporary rich development process of documentary and the persistence work on the documentary spirit in contemporary documentary creating and the restart of it.This thesis follows the time logic to analyze the development of documentary spirit and its intrinsic value.Meanwhile,efforts have been done to explore the reasons of documentary spirit's decline from the aspects of era environment and industrial environment and the inheritance and evolution of the documentary spirit in contemporary documentary.Finally,it discusses how to adapt to the new era of Chinese documentary to develop better.
