Shuowenchangjian is a book written by Zhao Yiguang in late Ming Dynasty.It respectively annotates and translates every word in Shuowenjiezi Wuyinyunpu by scholium in the lines and annotations after the original words.From the late Ming Dynasty,the research circles have been criticizing the book for a long time,yet the systematic research is still needed.There are some advantages in Shuowenchangjian,i.e.,correcting some Xushen's faults,translating words by combining characters in ancient Bronze and Stone,utilizing rhyming articles and homonyms to translate,to research writing by calligraphy,to translate words by combining dialects,to be correct enough in some words to be inherited by other scholars;But inevitably bears some Limitation of the times and disadvantages,i.e.,being too weak to translate some linguistic phenomenon,cannot distinguish Shape-tone and Shape-shape word,tend to use rare characters.In a word,Shuowenchangjian has some functions in showing exegetics methods,which has given many refers to the following Qianlong and Jiaqing School.
