Song dynasty is the transform period of critical interpretation of ancient texts. Influenced by idealist thinking, Confucians are explorative and innovative, but focus on doctrine instead of scholium. Under this situation, the famous Neo-Confucianist and Chinese scholium scholar, Chu His started his practice of scholium. This essay intend to discussing the characteristics, achievements and deficiencies of Chinese scholium by make a study of Oetry Roceedings written by Chu His, trying to know the base situation of scholium in Song dynasty.This essay is divided into seven parts.The first part which is also the introduction has four sections. The first section relates on the characteristics of scholium in Song dynasty under the influence of Neo-Confucianism: Scholium in Song dynasty make the annotation of Confucian classics became the means to advocate Neo-Confucianism, it also being skeptical to the ancient history and start the period of innovation. The second section introduces Chu His and his Oetry Roceedings. Chu His was a learned man of scholiun in Song dynasty and Oetry Roceeding which was written by Chu His represented the grandeur of scholium in Song dynasty. The third section mainly demonstrates the research situation of Oetry Roceeding. The fourth section points out the research significance and approaches of this essay.Scholium terms in Oetry Roceeding form the second part. This essay describes scholium terms in Oetry Roceeding by divide those terms into phonetic notation terms, interpretation terms, rhetoric terms, collation terms, doubtful terms cited from others ,explanation terms.The third part discusses the scholium content from the aspect of note pronunciation; identify the word, semantic interpretation, analysis of sentences and phrases, crosstalk effect, understanding of syntax, reveal rhetoric, collate text.The fourth part gives scholium methods in Oetry Roceeding. This part discusses some scholium methods such as searching for the meaning through sound or its form, etc, with many examples.The fifth part is about the characteristics and achievements of scholium. This part summarize two characteristics of sholium: one is draw elites both ancient and modern, and mix them together, the other is easy-to-understand, simple and plain. Then it elaborates four achievements of scholium in Oetry Roceeding: firstly it breaks the tradition of poem, emphasizing to search the meaning of poem from itself, secondly, it innovates the scholium materials and methods, thirdly it pays attention to the usage of substantive and functional word, fourthly, it dare to innovate in the practice of scholium.The sixth part is about the deficiency of scholium in Oetry Roceeding from the aspect of terms explanation and Xieyin Phonetic Notation. For terms explanation, Oetry Roceeding has some problems such as catching the meaning of words literally from the context, misunderstanding the name and the object. Xieyin Phonetic Notation causes no tuning word and destroys the rhyme of The Book of Odes.The last part mainly concludes the success and deficiency of scholium in Oetry Roceeding, drawing attention of educational circles towards sholium of Chu Hsi even sholium in Song dynasty, trying to complement the deficiency and enrich China sholium history.
