An E-C Translation Report On Philips Health Watch Project

During the internship in Philips(China)Investment Co.,Ltd in Shanghai,the author was responsible for the translation task concerning Philips Health Watch,which includes materials such as the advertisements,subtitles of promotion videos,product packaging,and some questionnaires,within the category of vocative text.This paper,based on the English-Chinese translation of a 10000-word excerpt from the translation task,aims at analyzing the problem solving process under the guidance of Skopos Theory in the translation materials and lays an emphasis on the discussion about the application of translation methods such as literal translation,amplification and conversion in the translation task.This translation report includes five chapters.The first chapter is a description of the translation task,translation process and translation requirements,as well as the purpose of the translation report.The second chapter is about the source text and translation difficulties in the translation task.In the third chapter,the author discusses Skopos Theory,which is the theoretical foundation of the translation report.The fourth chapter is the most highlighted part of the report,which is a detailed analysis of the application of the translation methods such as literal translation,amplification and conversion in the translation materials.The author gives some concrete translation examples to further illustrate the translation methods in this chapter.The final part is the conclusion part.The author presents some conclusions of translating the vocative texts and puts forward some major findings of the research as well as some limitations of the translation.In the translation process of the texts for market promotion,the translator has to flexibly employ various translation methods to maintain and maximize the publicity effect.The author hopes that this translation report can be of some help in the following translation practice with this kind of text.
