Grieg is a representative of the Norwegian national music school in the second half of the 19 th century and one of the influential composers.One of the classical works of Grieg’s chamber music creation is "g minor string quartet" which is the object of this paper.It shows Grieg’s superb creative techniques and superb musical accomplishments.Because of its high artistic achievement and academic value,it has been favored by many performers and has appeared in a variety of performance versions.This has led to the active guidance of Grieg’s performance practice in the "g minor string quartet".Based on a thorough investigation of a large number of relevant documents,the author conducted in-depth research on the four aspects of the background,works analysis,performance layout,and performance version of Grieg’s "g minor string quartet".By analyzing its creative features and playing practice process,the author’s theoretical basis and performance practice are enhanced to a certain extent,in order to provide guidance to other performers,and thus to perform a smooth grasp of such works.The paper is divided into the following four aspects:First,it describes the creative background and artistic features of Grieg’s "g minor string quartet".This work was produced during the mature period of Grieg nationalist music creation,with a distinct “Grige” branding and strong style characteristics.Second,it studies the music creation characteristics of Grieg’s "g minor string quartet",analyzes the musical structure of each movement and the music structure of the whole song,thus guiding the performer’s perfect interpretation of such works.Third,it analyzes the performance layout of Grieg’s "g minor string quartet",sums up the distribution characteristics of the strength of the work and bowing techniques,and shows the richness and variation of the strength of the entire work and the symphonic thinking of the diversity of voices,infused with a richer harmony of color and sound effects.Fourth,the author compares three distinctive audio versions of Grieg’s "g minor string quartet",explores the different understandings and handlings of the performers in different contexts,and then guides the performance practice of the work.All in all,Grieg’s "g minor string quartet" is an outstanding chamber music piece with outstanding artistic features,superb performance techniques and profound musical connotation.It has strong playing significance and research value.
