Liu Wu-chi In The Literature Communication Between China And The West

As a witness and participant of Chinese and western literature communication,Liu Wu-chi(1907-2002)played a vital role in the literary world in the 20th century.There are few domestic and foreign researches regarding Liu Wu-chi as the main study object.Besides,less focus is paid on the interpretation of the specific literature works and his bidirectional literature communication activities.On this basis,this paper clarifies Liu Wu-chi's literature communication process,concludes the characteristics,and carries out study by stages.The literature is the link of two kinds of different cultural communication and exchange.Therefore,Liu Wu-chi translated the western literary works through medio-translatology,introduced great writers,and summarized the experience and wisdom in China,to promote the construction and development of the Chinese national literature in new period.Compared with other culture and literature communicators,not only Liu Wu-chi's bidirectional exchange activities is reflected on advocating advanced western concepts in China,but also he actively promoted Chinese culture as an Chinese American sinologist,and gained recognition.The classic literary works and experts are the core of Liu Wu-chi's translation and introduction.These works that were polished and refined after long time should be paid great importance to,and regarded as common civilization achievement in the human history.They are important media of the literature communication.Liu Wu-chi adhered to the tenet of achieving more knowledge and then being an expert in certain domain when studying,and focused on the popularity and popular introduction,which gives rise to rich but not profound content.Especially,the Chinese literature introduction under the strange context in the western period aroused some doubt.However,Liu Wu-chi's contribution and effort in the Chinese and western literature communication cannot be denied.He is a pioneer of the Chinese new literature and a sinologist worthy of being studied.
