In June 2016,the author of this thesis was entrusted with a task of translation of L’Amitie de Roland Barthes by the publishing house Chongqing University Press.Philippe Sollers, author of this book, was Barthes’s publisher at Le Seuil.Despite their differences, they were very close to each other. They met regularly, and exchanged many letters. They fought many battles together against every kind of academicism, every political and ideological regression. They shared a total faith in literature as a force of invention and discovery,as a resource and an encyclopedia. They often wrote about each other:Barthes published a book titled Ecrivain Philippe Sollers, including his six articles on Sollers’ writing.L’Amitie de Roland Barthes is rather a dialogue between they two than a biography of Barthes. It records their exchanges on ideas, creations and life.In this book,we can find their precious friendship, know more about Roland Barthes, and even get a glimpse of French intellectuals in the 20th century.Intertextuality, concept of semiotics,is usually applied in literary research and criticism. It can also give us a new perspective on translation research.Sollers quotes many writings of others’.Therefore, the translator must choose translation strategies from the angle of intertextuality. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter begins with the description of this translation task, including the author, the main content and the value of the original. This work is characterised by philosophicalness and strong intertextuality. The second chapter describes the whole process of translation which consists of three phases:preparation, translation and correction. For the preparation,it is necessary to read all the text and its intertexts. When translating, what is most important is to ensure fidelity to the content, which is not only the choice of the translator in consideration of the characteristics of the text, but also the requirement of the Publishing house. The correction is realized several times by comparing the version with the original. It is necessary to ask others to check whether the understanding is correct or not.The English version that was published a few months ago is taken as a reference. In the third chapter, based on the theory of intertextuality and the intertextuality between text and text, text and cultural context, the author of this thesis discussed translation strategies in three aspects:word, sentence and discourse. The fourth chapter is a reflection on this practice of translation, which provides the author with inspiration and experience, and more strategies on translation.
