The increasingly fierce social competition forces people to improve their communicative competence especially the ability of making the speech, which causes books on speech become very popular. As a result,Carnegie's Public Speaking for Success has become hot and excellent Chinese translation can better meet the needs of readers. To achieve this need, the author uses the Skopos theory of German functionalist school to understand, analysis original text and uses translation strategies to reproduce the original text faithfully and accurately for increasing the readability of the target text.Skopos theory holds that the first principle of all translation activities should follow is translation should be in the target language context and culture,at the same time,in accordance with the acceptable ways of target text receivers to function. This requires the translator who is guided by the needs of the target language to deal with the differences in vocabularies and syntax between Chinese and English.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author of this report analyzes how to use translation methods to translate vocabularies and syntax in original text to achieve the needs of readers. In terms of vocabularies, some sentence structures in the original text are very neat and parallelism is often used. The purpose of text translation is to convey information more accurately instead of just seeking formal agreement. Therefore, when translating the text from English to Chinese, the translator keeps the equivalence between the target text and the original form as much as possible, and more importantly is to translate the meaning accurately. In sentences,English text prefers to use long sentences, attributive clauses, and has many differences from the Chinese syntactic structure. Therefore, the translator adjusts sentence structure and reorganizes complex sentences.Through these adjustments, the translator makes translation equivalent with the source text and more acceptable to readers.Besides, the translator also profoundly realizes that the translation of this kind of text should seek correspond meaning and fluent translation in vocabularies and sentences and be guided by the readers needs.
