Belle painting is an art about female images.It presents women's life,social ethical concepts and the public's aesthetic taste in different periods by building female images.With the constant development of society,people's aesthetic taste is also changing.The need for the development of painting itself makes it necessary for us to continuously examine the value and significance of the painting of ancient ladies in the history of Chinese art.The ancient ladies were always painted by Gai Qi in an elegant and clean way,with simple and natural lines and hues.Under the guidance of aesthetic thoughts that regard frailty as beautiful,the ancient ladies in his paintings were often with a delicate figure and natural charm,without make-up of thick powder or any coquettish feeling.Instead,they were all in a calm and leisurely state,which demonstrates that he emphasized the expression of the inner world of the ancient ladies.Gai Qi led the style of belle painting in the middle and late Qing Dynasty.Therefore,the importance of studying the artistic style of his belle painting is particularly obvious.This article first introduces the life of Gai Qi and analyzes his family environment and his relationship with teachers.The characteristic of Gai Qi's painting is mainly that he inherited the painting styles of Chou Ying and Tang Yin in Ming dynasty and learned the brushwork of the ancient artists from multiple perspectives.He took advantage of various artistic giants and made it his style that the painting of ancient ladies are set in a natural clean color with delicate and graceful hues,taking belle painting in Qing Dynasty to a new level.The second chapter examines the era background of the emergence of Gai Qi's portraits of ancient ladies,analyzes in depth the social environment and aesthetic factors of the times from the external perspective,and the transformation of the artist's own circumstances from the internal perspective to explore the historical background of the appearance of the typical visages of the refined and beautiful ancient ladies in Gai Qi's paintings.The third chapter probes into the cultural factors of the formation of Gai Qi's belle painting in order to find the deeper factors in the formation of Gai Qi's belle painting style,thereby to explore his aesthetic orientation and excavate the broad social value of his works.The third chapter is aimed at analyzing the artistic features of Gai Qi's female images by examining his works' themes,their hues and lines and other elements and setting the countenance and posture of the ladies and their dresses and adornments as starting point,with such works as "Autumn Wan Shan","Poetic Painting by Yu Yuanji","Beauty of Four Seasons",etc.(the representative works of Gai Qi)as examples.The article also made horizontal comparisons between Gai Qi's works and those of such contemporary lady painters as Jiao Bingzhen and Leng Mei for the purpose of exploring and comprehending the style of Gai Qi's belle painting style.In the end,the article explores and discusses the positive influence of Gai Qi on the painting of ancient ladies and folk art of later generations through such methods as research,literature review,comparative study,deduction and derivation.
