There are a great number of Chinese words in Korean,so,Korean students are predicted to acquire this category of vocabulary more efficiently than European students. However, the existence of homomorphic words in Koreanmay leadto negative transfer from L1 on the part of L1-Korean learners of Chinese.Without a thorough understanding of the similarities and differences between Korean and Chinese homomorphy,Korean students tend to misuse them. Therefore, the teacher should make students acquire homomorphic words firstly in order to avoid students making errors. There are comparative research results on Korean and Chinese homographs but there is not enough research on the students who already know Chinese characters and their comprehension of homographs. Therefore, the thesis sets out from the question,,whether knowing Chinese characters is of any help to differentiate homographs"to investigate the learners' grasp of homographs and to analyze the questionnaire. The test's precondition is comparative result. The respondents are Korean students who have been studying Chinese for more than two years.Through 124 questionnaires we found out there are 48 respondents who know the concept of homographs. Moreover, for the purpose of teaching strategies research, from the 48 group,we chose 15 intermediate level respondents and 15 advanced level respondents and made further analysis. We investigated the way of learning homographs. We found out Korean students believe education of Chinese characters is of much help in differentiating homographs. They also believe that to improve the level of Chinese one has to grasp the concept of homographs first. Therefore, the teacher should make students acquire homographs firstly in order to avoid making errors. This thesis is comprised of six chapters.Chapter 1 is introduction, including the aim, significance, range, method of the present study and the review of previous studies.Chapter 2 is comparison of Korean and Chinese homomorphic vocabularies. The vocabularies are divided into three groups, the first group is Korean and Chinese whole synonyms, the second group is partial antonyms and the third group is whole antonyms.Chapter 3 contains the design of questionnaires, the participants and the statistic analysis of the results. The questionnaires are designed on the basis of common words from "syllabus".The Korean students, who know Chinese words, take the two questionnaires.Chapter 4 is the analysis of the questionaries.is the discussion of questionnaires results and similarities and differences of Korean-Chines homomorphy. The participants are divided into two groups, intermediate learners and advanced learners. The causes of their errors during learning these words are explored based on the accuracy rate in the questionnaires.Chapter 5 is about teaching strategy. Some effective teaching strategies are proposed based on the result of our research.Chapter 6 is the conclusion. The achievements and drawbacks of the present study are discussed in this chapter. The results of this study are expected to have implications for Korean and Chinese students learning homomorphic vocabularies.
