Language is the carrier of culture.Culture is deeply rooted in the language and reflected in different ways and levels through the language.Translation is a process of transferring cultural information through the conversion of language codes or text symbols. That is,translation is not only a conversion process of languages but also a process of cultural transplantation. So we need to introduce the principle of "cultural compatibility" into translation. The principle of "cultural compatibility" is an important concept of cultranslation, including three aspects:(1)good comprehension of cultural meaning;(2)good reader reception;(3)good aesthetic judgment.Introduction to Mass Commun cations is a college textbook in America. In its chapter 22,which is engaged with many legal cases and cultural events, the author of this textbook describes the overall environment of U.S.media,law and the corresponding culture.Compared with the translation of other texts, the translation of legal texts is not only a cross-linguistic communicative action, but also a communicative activity which crosses cultures and legal systems. In the process of translation,it is by far not enough for the translator to master only the source language and the target language.Translators also need to have enough understanding of the external factors such as different legal cultures, legal systems, social background, media cultures and media organizations.Taking this text as an example, the translator translated chapter 22 under the guidance of the principle of "cultural compatibility" in the process of translation.
